What PassPlay remembers, what friends can see, and the choices you control.
Draft · Updated October 20, 2026
Information You Provide
When you sign in with Google or an email magic link, PassPlay processes your account identifier and email address. A Google sign-in may also supply a name and profile image. You can add a display name, profile picture, banner, and your selected streaming services.
PassPlay stores the star ratings, playlists, Watchlist, Watch History, friend requests, connections, and sharing choices you create. Watch History records what you mark as watched; PassPlay does not connect to your Netflix or other streaming account to import its viewing history. Selecting a streaming service does not give PassPlay access to that service’s account.
Preferences and Recommendations
Swipes, quick feedback, selected services, and taste weights help rank recommendations. Star ratings also influence personal recommendations and the shared taste used for connected-friend picks. Mood prompts and selected title identifiers may be sent to an AI recommendation service to produce picks and short explanations.
Recommendation requests can include your mood prompt, selected services, and title identifiers you liked, disliked, or excluded. Avoid entering sensitive personal information in a mood prompt. Requests do not need your email address, profile photos, or complete Watch History.
Browser Storage and Account Storage
PassPlay uses browser storage to remember streaming selections, taste preferences, quick feedback, saved title details, cost filters, and room participation. These device-saved choices can remain after you sign out. Clearing this site’s browser storage removes local copies, but does not delete information saved to your account.
When signed in, taste and service preferences can sync with your account. Ratings, playlists, Watchlist, Watch History, profile details, and uploaded images are stored with your account. Authentication uses browser session storage mechanisms so you can remain signed in. Profile images are kept in private storage and displayed through temporary image links.
Watch Rooms
Watch rooms do not require an account. They store a room code, participant names, a shared title deck, and votes. Room data is publicly readable for live updates; a room code is not a privacy guarantee. Do not use sensitive information as a room name or participant name.
A device-saved participant identifier is used to validate room actions. Other room participants can see round progress and results. Anonymous room decks use the group’s voting signals rather than a single signed-in person’s star ratings.
Services That Support PassPlay
PassPlay relies on hosting, account sign-in, data storage, AI recommendations, and movie-information services to operate. TMDB supplies title information and streaming availability, and OMDb supplies available review scores. Requests to these services can involve title searches or title identifiers.
Trailer previews load a YouTube privacy-enhanced player only when opened. Images and embeds can transmit connection information, such as an IP address, to their providers. Play links open independent streaming or store websites, whose own privacy policies apply. Operational error reporting can process diagnostic information to investigate failures.
Your Choices
You can update your display name, photos, sharing settings, and selected services on your Profile. You can change or clear star ratings, remove Watchlist or Watch History entries, update quick feedback, remove friends, and manage playlists using the app’s controls.
Signing out ends your active account session but does not delete account records or all device preferences. Resetting learned taste does not erase ratings or other saved lists. Account-wide deletion and data-export requests are not currently available as self-service actions.
Retention and Security
Account information is kept to support the saved features you use until it is removed through available controls or an account-management process. Browser data remains until it is cleared or replaced. This policy does not promise a fixed retention period for operational logs, backups, or third-party records.
Account-owned records use access restrictions, and friend views are limited to connection checks and sharing choices. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Do not share sign-in links, private account access, or sensitive information in watch rooms.
Policy Updates and Privacy Requests
This draft describes the current app. The service operator’s legal identity, privacy contact, applicable regional rights process, and confirmed provider retention terms still need to be supplied before this policy is finalized. It is not a substitute for legal review.
If the way PassPlay handles information changes, this page should be updated with a new revision date. A privacy-request contact will be added once the service operator confirms it.
